Besides all these reasons light also plays an important role in the number of eggs that you can get each day. The number of the hours when the chicken houses gets light is an important player for the number of eggs. The normal time for your chickens to start laying eggs is between the twentieth week and the twenty-first week. The egg lying procedure by each bird will continue for a little more than a year. This is the best time when the number of eggs produced will be of good size and the qualities will also be good.
You can enhance the health of the egg laying bird and even the size of the egg. This can be done by allowing the appropriate light in your chicken houses. Egg production is best stimulated by daylight. Thus, with the days growing longer, the egg production will also grow better. This is the reason, why you notice that eggs are better in size and quality from the 21st of December to the 21st of June. The egg production goes down the slope in the time between 21st June and 21st December.
You may be worried about how to increase the production of eggs during the time when the days get shorter. You can supply light in the chicken houses by electricity. You can turn them on when the daylight starts fading. If you can keep the birds' coop lighted up for about 16 to 18 hours a day, then you are sure to notice some change in the egg production by your chickens. This will boost the egg production by about 20 percent to 30 percent. However you must be aware not to increase the light on growing chickens and you must not decrease the light which falls on the birds which are matured enough to lay eggs.
